In this undated bill of sale, Rev. Thomas Mulledy SJ sells eleven men and women to Henry Johnson. This sale must have taken place some time after November 10, 1838. Ten of the people listed in this bill of sale are recorded in the 1838 census as having run away: Nace, Arnold, Dick, Charles, Isaac, William, Isaiah, Nancy, Martha, and Betsy. Nelly is listed as having been "married off." Why these men and women were sold separately is unknown.

I the undersigned, Henry Johnson of the parish of St. James of the state of Louisiana do hereby bind myself to pay to Thomas F. Mulledy, or to his order, for all the slaves herein after described and mentioned the sum of seven thousand one hundred and eighty dollars, or for each one severally the sum affixed to his or her name to wit: Nace a man 20 years old eight hundred and sixty four dollars, Arnold a man 38 years old, seven hundred and two dollars, Dick a man 40 years old, six hundred and forty eight dollars, Charles a man 45 years old, three hundred and seventy eight dollars, Isaiah a man 21 years old, eight hundred and sixty four dollars, William a man 21 years old, eight hundred and sixty four dollars, Nancy a girl 15 years old, five hundred and ninety four dollars, Martha a girl 12 years old, four hundred and thirty two dollars, Isaac a man 21 years old eight hundred and sixty four dollars, Betsey a woman, 32 years old, five hundred and ninety four dollars, Nelly a woman, 38 years old, three hundred and seventy eight dollars.
It is, however, distinctly understood, that the credit and mode of payment for each, or all, of said servants must be conformable to, and on the same terms, as the contract entered into between H. Johnson and Thos. F. Mulledy bearing date the tenth of November one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight witness my hand and seal.
